Roses and Yarrow

Two of my favorite herbs in springtime! The spicy earthiness of Yarrow against the sweet floral aroma of the roses makes a heart sing with joy!

Yarrow has been historically known as a styptic (stopping bright red blood flow from minor cuts) herb.

Achillea millefolium (Yarrow) has been used in cosmetics as an astringent for the face and to help clear up acne or oily skin.

Please note- if you have allergies specific to the aster family, do not use the below skin recipes.

Facial recipe: mash fresh leaves and place on face for 10-15 minutes for treatment of inflamed, irritated, oily or blemished facial conditions.

Used as an astringent: use 1 tsp of dried crushed herb to a 1/4 pint of boiling water. Allow to infuse for 30 minutes and cool. Apply while fresh. Use the rest in your bath water for a soothing relaxing bath.

Bathing is my preferred use of Yarrow as the scent helps to sooth my nerves. Fresh rose petals and yarrow in the bath is Heavenly!
